Distributed Validators are coming to the Based Stack
Spire Labs is joining the Obol Collective, to jointly ensure that Distributed Validators (DVs) remain compatible within the Based Stack rollup framework.

Today we are thrilled to announce that Spire Labs is joining the Obol Collective, to jointly ensure that Distributed Validators (DVs) remain compatible within the Based Stack rollup framework.
Spire Labs’ Based Stack offers app developers the ability to create scalable, interoperable appchains which seamlessly integrate with Ethereum’s liquidity and protocols. This partnership ensures that users get the best of both worlds; having more secure, fault-tolerant validators running Obol distributed validators (DVs) while getting access to additional proposer commitments via the Based Stack.
Expanding Operator Opportunities and Further Strengthening Ethereum
This partnership represents a new opportunity for Obol’s Decentralized Operator Ecosystem, unlocking new streams of revenue for operators, as they contribute to:
- Pre-confirmations and sequencing: Distributed validator operators will be able to participate in pre-confirmations and based sequencing, which improve user experience for end users, while also improving both security and composability across based rollups.
- Cross-chain interoperability: Distributed validator operators will secure seamless communication between based rollups and Ethereum L1. This reduces the complexity and fragmentation of a siloed, rollup-centric landscape.
- Enhanced MEV capture: Distributed validator operators participating in coordinated MEV auctions and transaction bundling across rollups could shift MEV opportunities away from centralized sequencers, enabling operators to monetize their roles while preserving composability.
This partnership also promotes the vision of Ethereum as a decentralized settlement layer, by reducing reliance on centralized sequencers and promoting the Ethereum validator set to anchor security. Operators will be able to both secure Ethereum and layer 2s through based preconfirmations while still maintaining the key features of DVs such as low barriers to entry, higher rewards, and reduced risk of slashing.
Technical Collaboration and Roadmap
Obol and Spire will be engaging in development and testing to ensure that DVs seamlessly integrate with Based Stack components. The initial focus will be on validating proposer commitment and pre-confirmation mechanisms within rollup architectures.
This partnership showcases our collective commitment to scaling and securing decentralized infrastructure networks like Ethereum, while bringing more opportunities to operators around the world.
